The reported E1b1a Y-DNA lineage, which cannot identify the King branch through Gloria, traces its deepest root to Haplogroup E, which emerged approximately 73,000 years ago in East Africa. This is the oldest known marker in Barklee Sanders' direct paternal line.

Catherine's maternal mtDNA haplogroup is T2b (23andMe assignment, confirmed September 19, 2026 and shared with two relatives on the Laliberté side). Its parent lineage T arose in Southwest Asia / the Near East roughly 25,000 years ago; T2b later entered Europe with Neolithic farming populations and spread to the Atlantic, where it is a minority lineage today, somewhat more common in France, Ireland and Britain. It marks the unbroken line of mothers Eugenie Louise Adams (Lowell, MA) → Estelle Laliberte → Catherine.

The E1b1a (E-M2) haplogroup expansion began approximately 5,800 years ago at the Nigeria-Cameroon border, coinciding with the Bantu language expansion. This is population-history context, not a documented King-family migration or an ethnic identification. E1b1a occurs among: Yoruba (81-92% carry E1b1a), Igbo, Ibibio, and related Niger-Congo speaking peoples of southeastern Nigeria and Cameroon.

The earliest recorded event on Catherine’s Adams line. The Newton birth register lists their children born 1780 to 1795, among them Smith Adams Jr., as children of Roger and Hepsibah.

Catherine’s 4x great-grandparents on the Laliberte line marry on the south shore of the St. Lawrence. Guillaume, born at Gentilly in 1771, was a son of Michel Roireau and Catherine Mailhot; Marie-Anne a daughter of Jean-Baptiste Lafond and Thérèse Pepin.

The marriage act in the Saint-Joseph de Chambly register names both sets of parents, Pierre Daragon and Anne Dubord, and Jean-Baptiste-Gabriel Levreau and Marie-Angélique Côté, which is why this link on Catherine’s Gatien and Lafrance line is rated strong.

U.S. Army fortification established by General Edmund P. Gaines during the Second Seminole War, along the Withlacoochee River in Marion County, Florida. Named for 1st Lt. James F. Izard of the 1st U.S. Dragoons, killed at the site during combat with Seminole forces led by Osceola and Alligator. After the war, the site would become a freedmen settlement where the King family is first documented in 1870.

Born enslaved in South Carolina. The family appears to have migrated from Alabama through South Carolina, suggesting the Kings were moved or sold between states during the antebellum period.

The Thirteenth Amendment abolishes slavery. The King family, now free, begins building their lives in Marion County, Florida. Camp Izard, the former Seminole War fort along the Withlacoochee River, becomes a freedmen settlement where the Black King families are first documented in the 1870 Census.

The 1880 census of Lebanon lists Esdres Liberty, 42, born Canada, his wife Mary, 32, and Joseph Liberty, 35. New Hampshire records index the family under this anglicized name for the next generation, which is why an earlier search for “Laliberté” in New England records missed them.

The 1900 census records Samuel Z. King and Martha as married in 1893. Martha’s maiden name is contested: Johnson on Buster’s 1985 death certificate and funeral record, Pound on Beaulah King’s 1925 death certificate. The Marion County marriage license (clerk of court; FamilySearch catalog 122864) has not been read.

Born in Kendrick, Florida (funeral record); his Florida death certificate gives the birth date April 23, 1895 and birthplace Florida. The census identification links Ebo to Samuel Z. and Martha King; his death certificate and funeral record name his father Zack King and mother Martha Johnson. Zack is consistent with Zachariah, but the identity with the census Samuel Z. King is not yet proven.

The 1900 Census confirms James King, born January 1843, still residing in Ocala. Martha King listed as wife of Samuel with children Ebo and Beaulah.

The record names the groom’s parents John Q. Adams and Hannah Hurley and the bride’s parents Merile Lafleur and Catherine Patenaude; it is the record that puts Rouses Point, Clinton County into Catherine’s tree. Their daughter Eugenie Louise married Ovide Laliberte in 1936.

The Ocala Evening Star reports County Judge Robert Bullock hearing the case of Zack King against George Smith, both of Kendrick, in which King charged Smith with intent to do him great bodily harm. Buster King’s 1985 death certificate names his father Zack King, and Buster was born in Kendrick in 1895. This places a man of that name in that settlement seven years later; it does not by itself prove he is Buster’s father.

Samuel Z. King was listed as widowed in the 1910 Census (as “Zachariah King”, Kendrick), indicating Martha died between 1900 and 1910. No Florida death certificate exists: statewide registration began in 1917.

The couple the DNA arithmetic points to as Catherine’s paternal grandparents, though no record names their son as her father. Hermine, 23, and John Edward, 58, raised seven children at Sainte-Barbe, Huntingdon County; the 1911 census lists the household with son Edward, born February 1909.

The Ocala Evening Star’s “Kendrick Quota” lists the Kendrick residents who bought Fourth Liberty Loan bonds, including Ebo King, Robert Anderson King and a Miss Bessie Mae Finley. Ebo was 23. The Finley name on the same list is consistent with Lizzie Finley’s family living in Kendrick, where the Finley Community Cemetery stands.

The 1921 Census of Canada records John Edward Quinn and Hermine Dozois with children Edward, Irene, Rose, Joseph and George at Sainte-Barbe, Chateauguay-Huntingdon, Québec. The index transcribes the surname as “Queen”; the household, ages and location supply a contemporaneous record of the family before the 1931 Godmanchester census.

C. King”. She is a candidate match to the Beaulah in Samuel Z. and Martha King’s 1900 household, Buster’s sister; the match is not proven. The certificate is the source of the Johnson/Pound conflict over Martha’s maiden name.

The 1931 Census of Canada records “Minnie Guinn”, 45, home maker, at Godmanchester township, Huntingdon County, with Irene 18, Rose 15, Albert 19 (building labourer), John 11, George 10 and Michael 9; Edward, 22, is elsewhere and has not been found in Canada that year. Library and Archives Canada indexed the surname as Guinn, which is why earlier searches under Quinn found nothing.

Hermine’s son, a 31 year old plasterer of St. Catharines, Ontario, presented himself twice at the Niagara Falls crossing “to get a beer, few hours”; both cards are stamped debarred and appealed and referred to a Board of Special Inquiry. The cards name his wife, Mary Eldora (Eiler, 1924 to 1997), whom he had married at Welland, Ontario about 1947. He obtained a Social Security number in Illinois in December 1956; his wife remarried in Florida in April 1960; and from then until June 1971 no record places him anywhere. He is the only one of Hermine’s sons documented in the United States and, since September 20, 2026, the working identification of Catherine’s father.

His Florida birth certification names mother Gloria Ann King and father Clarence Douglass Sanders; his New York death certificate names Gloria A. King and Clarence D. Sanders Sr. He later lived in the Cortland area and married Catherine Sanders. A connection to the Chicago/Westfield Sanders family remains unconfirmed.

Bessemer marriage index agrees with the alumni association’s 2003 anniversary report on the couple, date and place. Index names groom’s parents John Sanders and Roxie Lee Hutcherson. This candidate family’s connection to Barklee remains unproven.

The Parrot 1956 yearbook, page 20, carries the entry the family still holds: “Estelle Laliberte, 32 Young Street, ‘Stella’. Quiet and diffident manner… one of the three musketeers, Sandy, Nancy, Stella… slide trombonist… has a knack with children. Band 3,4; Choir 4; Library Club 3,4.” She then moved to New York City, working as a governess and later for more than 25 years at Macy’s.

His name is inscribed on Panel W46, Line 4 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. Died two months before Lizzie Finley; their proposed parent-child relationship remains unconfirmed.

Died in Ocala, Florida, age 63. Buried November 3, 1968 at Lincoln Memorial, lot 39, section 9, grave D — the cemetery now called Faith Memorial Gardens (Find a Grave #72557876). Her Cunningham funeral record, Entry #2268, read from the full-resolution JP2 master on September 18, 2026, names her parents Johnson Finley and Eliza D—s (single informant). Two months after Lewis King was killed in Vietnam; their proposed parent-child relationship remains unconfirmed.

Cunningham record 2311 records Samuel King’s death in Ocala on December 24, 1968, age 89, with birth on August 12, 1879 in Monticello, Florida. It names Bertha Williams as granddaughter and does not name Buster. This record is not established as belonging to the census Samuel Z. King born about 1868. The earlier age-100 claim is withdrawn.

Hermine’s eldest son, a well driller, died at 61 at 533 chemin Larocque, Valleyfield, “célibataire, demeurant chez sa mère Mme Mary Quinn”; funeral from Salons J. A. Larin and burial at Valleyfield. Found in Session 16 in two Valleyfield papers, which closed the last open death among the candidate fathers. At Christmas 1961 he had been 52 and unmarried, 70 km from the Laliberte family’s Rouses Point.

The Gleaner reported that John Quinn, now in the construction business in Washington, was spending a week in Huntingdon with his brother Albert and visiting his mother at Valleyfield, “his first visit back since leaving 30 years ago”. It is the first record of him after his first wife’s 1960 remarriage, and it means he was not in Québec at Christmas 1961; his 1971 wife is unnamed and no Washington marriage of his is on record.

The candidate grandmother of Catherine died at the same chemin Larocque address where her son Edward had died in 1970. Her daughter Rose-Marie had married Henry Brady at Valleyfield Cathedral in 1942; her son Albert died at Huntingdon in 1982 and Michael’s wife Marguerite Chrétien at Saint-Anicet the same year.

Buried March 16, 1985 at Lincoln Memorial Garden, Ocala (now Faith Memorial Gardens), Lot 150, Section Holy Bible A, Grave C. The death certificate and funeral record (Entry #6216) both name his father Zack King and mother Martha Johnson (informant Bernice King on both). The funeral record lists daughters Bernice King Daily and Theola King Cox, son-in-law Benjamin Daily, one granddaughter, Beulah C. Davis and Richard Berryant Jr. Gloria is not named; the record does not resolve her parentage. Find a Grave has no memorial for him (checked September 18, 2026), and his Star-Banner obituary has not been read.

Estelle Lorraine Laliberte dies at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx at 69, predeceased by her husband Matthew Barrett and survived by a brother and two sisters (living, not named here). She is buried November 15, 2008 in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lebanon, NH, beside the plot of her parents, who had both died in 1998. Her obituary names no children.

Barklee Sanders serves in the United States military as a Signal Support Systems Specialist.

Born at Sainte-Barbe on August 28, 1920, a Brockville Public Utilities employee and husband of the late Frances Louise Neale (1911 to 2007), George Antoine Quinn died at Kingston General Hospital aged 93. His obituary reads “Predeceased by brothers and sisters Edward, Albert, John, Mike, Rose and Irene”, which places the death of every candidate father before April 2014. His son Roger Wayne Quinn (1954 to 2024) died at Odessa, Ontario. The living relatives the obituary names are withheld.

Paul-André, called Tidre, died at Sainte-Barbe aged 65. His obituary, placed with Rodrigue Montpetit et fils, names his parents as Marie-Ange Galipeau and Albert Quinn, which ties the Sainte-Barbe family of 2021 to Hermine Dozois’s second son. The funeral home’s own article returns HTTP 500 on every retry and its site search for Quinn returns nothing; the text was read from the lenecrologue.com listing and an indexed copy. The obituary also names living relatives, who are withheld.

Analysis of Barklee's phased genome and 23andMe DNA Relatives identifies Catherine's maternal biological line as the French-Canadian LALIBERTÉ family, with the matches' grandparents born in Rouses Point, NY, Lowell, MA, Lawrenceville, Québec and Lebanon, NH. The finding is consistent with mtDNA haplogroup T2b (shared with two Laliberté-line matches) and ~24.8% French autosomal ancestry, and supersedes earlier speculative leads. The working guess at the time, that the family was the 'Liberty' clan of Clinton County, NY, was corrected on September 19, 2026 when the mother was identified in Lebanon, NH.

Research identified Gloria A. King and Clarence D. Sanders in the California divorce index for December 1967, Merced County. Both names and initials match Clarence Jr.’s recorded parents, but no image, ages or children are supplied. This is an unconfirmed identity lead, not an established event in the grandparents’ lives. Two spouse entries describe one record. The underlying court file remains to be located and examined.

Buster King’s Florida death certificate (State File 85-030223) and Clarence Douglass Sanders Jr.’s birth certification (109-1952-029497), both issued September 10, 2026, were read against the Cunningham funeral records at full resolution. The certificate names Buster’s parents Zack King and Martha Johnson (informant Bernice King), his burial at Lincoln Memorial Garden and his address at 1930 N.W. 27th Ave; the funeral record agrees on all three once the earlier “Jack”, “Pinelawn” and “2nd Ave” misreadings are corrected. Lizzie King’s record names her parents Johnson Finley and Eliza D—s. Lincoln Memorial Gardens and Faith Memorial Gardens are one cemetery. Twelve gaps remain in the research log’s gap register, the first three resting on a single 1985 informant; the SSA SS-5, the 1893 Marion County marriage license and a FamilySearch sign-in are the next instruments.

Starting from a photograph of a 1956 yearbook page, a same-day search located the book (The Parrot, Lebanon High School), the 1950 census household at 32 Young Street, Estelle’s 2008 Rutland Herald obituary and her Find a Grave memorial with both parents and all four grandparents. The obituary’s two surviving sisters are the 23andMe great-aunt matches, and the grandparents’ birthplaces (Lowell MA, Rouses Point NY, Canada, Lebanon NH) match what those matches report. The mother–daughter link still needs the NYC pre-adoption birth certificate to be on a record; the biological father was still unknown at this point (see September 20, 2026).

With FamilySearch and Nos Origines, three of Catherine’s four maternal great-grandparent lines are documented to her 5x great-grandparents: the Laliberte line to Michel Roireau and Catherine Mailhot (both born 1728), the Gatien and Lafrance line to Pierre Daragon (1731), and the Adams line to Roger Adams and Hephzibah Russell (married 1777). The 23andMe ancestral-surname list the family’s Laliberte relatives entered contains every surname in the lattice except seven, and contradicts none.

Tracing each of the strongest paternal-side 23andMe matches down from a documented ancestor showed that four of the five sub-clusters descend from François Dozois and Émilie Thibeault through three daughters: Hermine (Quinn, Sainte-Barbe), Rose (Rivard, Detroit) and Adeline (Bastedo, Buffalo). The 2.63% share with Hermine’s great-great-granddaughter fits Catherine best as the daughter of one of Hermine’s sons. The same day a Philadelphia Quinn family that a merged FamilySearch profile had attached to the eldest son was excluded on the 1910 census and Find a Grave, and John Joseph Quinn’s 1951 border-crossing cards were found. The father was still unnamed at this point; the family’s account followed on September 20.

Session 15 read George Antoine Quinn’s 2014 obituary and Paul-André Quinn’s 2021 obituary, added the wives and deceased children of Albert Joseph, George Antoine and Michael Delvani, and Rose-Marie Quinn and Henry Brady, to the candidate family. Four searches returned nothing, each checked with a positive and a negative control: a 57-hint sliced sweep of the NUMIDENT index (7,281 unique rows) found a Social Security application only for John Joseph; Chronicling America 1955 to 1963 holds no page for Quinn with any Huntingdon County or Brockville place name, and almost no New York or Québec titles for those years; Nos Origines has no Dozois and Quinn family of Sainte-Barbe; and the New York City marriage index 1950 to 2017 has no marriage yet tied to this family. No record placed any brother in New York State in 1961 or early 1962.

Session 16 read the Huntingdon Gleaner, the St. Lawrence Sun and La gazette Valleyfield-Beauharnois on BAnQ numérique, the 1931 census and the United States border, Social Security and Florida marriage indexes for all five brothers. It found Edward’s 1970 death, Hermine’s 1977 death, John Joseph’s 1971 visit home and his first wife’s 1960 remarriage, corrected the conception window to Christmas 1961 to New Year 1962, and withdrew a Seattle passenger list wrongly cited for John (it is a different man of 1922). All 38 issues of the three papers from November 29, 1961 to February 21, 1962 hold one Quinn item, Albert on a Huntingdon donor list. Ranking for the window: John Joseph first (unattached, in the United States, unrecorded 1960 to 1971), Edward second (unmarried, Valleyfield, 52), then Michael, George and Albert.

A relative in Canada told Catherine that her birth father was “John Quincy”. Tested as a surname, no John Quincy of the right age with any Québec, New York or New England tie exists in the Social Security NUMIDENT index (76 rows, 11 men), the Social Security Death Index (14 rows), the 1931 Census of Canada, the New York City marriage index 1950 to 1975 or Find a Grave, each search run with a positive control. Read as John Quinn it names John Joseph Quinn (1919 to 2002), the only John among Hermine Dozois’s sons and already first in the Session 16 ranking. He is now the working identification of Catherine’s father — Strong Signal on documentary identity, biological paternity unproven. The same day the paternal-side DNA was re-measured live and reproduced every value, his Washington residence chain 1993 to 2003 was read, and a 1977 Island County marriage of a younger John Joseph Quinn was excluded. A record that names him is still needed: a 1961 New York City marriage certificate in his name, Catherine’s sealed birth record, or a Quinn half-sibling among her matches. (His 2002 death certificate arrived October 1, 2026 — it attests identity, not paternity.)

John Joseph Quinn is the working identification of Catherine’s biological father — Strong Signal on documentary identity, biological paternity unproven. Original BAnQ registers confirm his June 10, 1919 birth at Sainte-Barbe and the 1907 marriage of John E. Quinn and Hermine Dozois. NARA’s Social Security application and death entries share that exact birth date and identify the same parents; the Washington death index records a John J. Quinn dying July 25, 2002 in King County at age 83; and his death certificate (received October 1, 2026, VitalChek #227405226) independently attests the same man — name, DOB, birthplace, Seattle death, occupation driller. The ongoing work documents his line and unresolved record gaps.

The ~August 30, 2002 Seattle Post-Intelligencer death notice was never retrieved: the only indexed trace is the Findmypast “United States Obituary Notices” blurb US/TRIB/036486728 (from tributes.com) — first name, born June 10, 1919, died July 25, 2002, resident of Seattle — naming no survivors, no funeral home and no burial; no fuller 2002 Seattle obituary has been found in free sources, so the death-notice route is closed pending a library GenealogyBank or newspapers.com terminal pass. On October 1, 2026 his Washington death certificate was received (VitalChek #227405226; local 8468 / state 146 2 28218): John Joseph Quinn, born June 10, 1919 Canada, died July 25, 2002 22:26 at Harborview Medical Center Seattle, aged 83, DIVORCED, occupation DRILLER / DRILLING, residence 533 Third Ave W #906 Seattle WA 98119, father JOHN QUINN, mother “Doza” (handwritten, surname only, informant-supplied — does not confirm “Hermine”; the Doza≈Dozois phonetic reading is Speculative), informant Donna Quinn of Ocala FL, cremated 8/24/02, ME/Coroner certifier. The identity bridge is now Strong on four legs; biological paternity remains unproven — no record yet names him as her father.

The King County Medical Examiner file for his death (case 02-1004) was received on October 15, 2026: he died at Harborview Medical Center of small bowel obstruction/ischemia progressing to peritonitis and sepsis (certifier Michael K. Copass, MD; no autopsy, toxicology or photographs — a next-of-kin notification and disposition case only). The disposition was a county Indigent Remains Program disposition — released August 23, 2002 to Wiggen & Sons Funeral Home (purchased by Bonney-Watson in 2000) and cremated August 24, 2002 — with no family cremation authorization. The file documents Donna Quinn of Florida as his daughter and records a Rose Quinn of Philadelphia calling on August 3, 2002; a separate memo names “Rose Brady, supposed sister”, and the two names are not yet resolved to one person. On October 16, 2026 the Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the file contains all existing 2002 records and that the disposition-program paperwork was destroyed under the six-year retention schedule, so this trail is closed. The same week set three more records in motion: a VA FOIA for his complete claims file (he is in the VA BIRLS Death File), a USCIS Genealogy index search (GEN-10345594) keyed to his Alien Registration No. A010687101, and a Seattle Housing Authority tenant-file request for 533 Third Ave W #906.
